Manipulated Digital Image

This photograph has been digitally manipulated so the laptop appears to be old and rusted. The screen of the laptop is displaying an appropriated version of the popular Apple symbol; the screen also appears to be broken and cracked.
This photograph depicts the imminent downfall of other brands and companies of laptops in the future because of Apple Inc.'s rising popularity throughout the world. It represents a protest to the unstoppable rise of Apple and its continuous release of products that have the ability to potentially wipe out other laptops.

Why is this object important to me??

 Hi,

I'm here to talk about an object that has special significance in my life, honestly I couldn’t find one. So I chose one that would be very hard to live without, my laptop. More importantly the object itself allows me to access the internet and with that internet, a whole other world of information. Access to the internet allows me, personally, to look up music, art, movies, videos, movies, and research such as when the first laptop came to be.

The idea for the a devicethat people could portably move computer data or a transferable computerstarted around the 1970’s but because of the technological limitations they weren’t able to take it very far. The first commercially available “laptop” was the size of a portable sewing machine and couldn’t run on battery power. Now that the world knew that it was in fact possible, development began and steadily became, this!, over a period of around 40 years, its pretty significant how fast that is in retrospect considering what I can do with this object that weighs around 3kgs. And looking around in today’s world, perhaps the laptop will become overshadowed, if it isn’t already, by things such asiphones, ipads, tablets. Handheld devices that do essentially the same thing, but you can fit it in your back pocket.

Not too long ago when I first moved up here to Townsville, the internet had not been set up and my house is located in a bad reception area, so I was cut off from the internet and could not use my laptop to its full capabilities and my phone which I turned to in my time need, couldn’t do anything either. I found that when the internet was cut off, I felt lost, I couldn’t use my laptop to look up music, music lyrics, guitar tabs, couldn’t watch movies or TV shows on the internet, I couldn’t stalk people on facebook, couldn’t access my emails and JCU accounts, I couldn’t casually Google stuff that I don’t understand. I had built this entire lifestyle surrounding my laptop and its access to the internet, that I didn’t even realise how easy it made my life.
I’ve had this particular laptop for about 3 years, it may be missing a few keys, but it is very important to me.

Thank you
